Fierce Hearted {Book Review}

book review

Fierce Hearted
by Holley Gerth

I’ve been going through something big in my life.  It’s felt so uncertain but exciting.  You can read about it here.

When I saw this book up for review, I knew I needed to read it.  God knew I needed to read it.  The words Holley wrote spoke to my heart during this new season I find myself in.  This book is raw.  It’s real.  It’s brave.  And it’s what my heart needed.

As I was reading, I just kept saying, “Me too!”.

When you read this book, be prepared to feel like you are sitting and chatting with your best friends.  Holley is so open and vulnerable with her words.  It felt like every chapter was written for something I had previously or am currently struggling with.  It felt as if she had gotten into my head and could see my heart, speaking directly into my insecurities.

Y’all, we don’t have to be tied to our past or scared of our future.  We can just embrace ourselves and our lives right where we are right now.  And just believe in the woman God has created us to be.

This quote is one of my favorites from the book…

I am slowly learning to be a woman who has the gumption (as we say in the South) to set things down so she may move forward, so she may be present.

If there is one thing I’m not good at, it’s setting things down and moving forward.  I’m more of a relive-it-every-single-day kinda girl.  That just keeps us tied to our past and bogs us down.  Through Holley’s precious words, I’ve learned I need to intentionally sit things down and move forward.

This book, oh this book, I highly recommend it for any woman who wants to become who God created her to be.  You’ll finish it and be excited to reread it again!

Thankful {14/30}

Today I am thankful for this sweet little country church I’ve been blessed to attend my entire life.  We have the best church family.  My parents attended this church when they adopted me, and it makes my heart so happy to know there are members there even still that prayed for them (and me) during the adoption.  So many members of the church I’ve known my entire life, and honestly feel as if they are family.  I’ve made so many lifelong friends inside this church.  And memories, oh how many sweet memories I’ve made here throughout my life.  I love knowing my own babies have made their own lifelong friendships and memories inside the church as well.  Just walking through the door feels like home to all of us.

Thankful {13/30}

I am thankful for the relationship my children have with one another.  Watching the relationship between these kids, as a Mama, is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever witnessed.  They sweetly love on each other, they support each other and fiercely protect what they have.  It’s not forced, it’s not fake, it’s just pure and true.  Best friends.  What a beautiful thing to stand on the sidelines and watch.

Their love, compassion and laughter is so contagious. I can’t help but be proud of the amazing people they are.  I am so incredibly thankful for the kindness they show towards not only each other but to others as well.  I could not be more proud of them!

I am also so thankful when my son’s fiance came into our lives, she just perfectly fit into the mix.  She’s not only his fiance, but my daughters best friend.  Watching the three of them together is absolutely the sweetest.  I can only imagine how close their families will be throughout life.
