Thankful {10/30 + 11/30}

Today {yesterday actually} I’m super oh-so-thankful for loving kids who took care of their Mama when she had an allergic reaction to meds. A son who even skipped a college visit because of how sick I got on the way there. A daughter who took over chores so I could rest and relax. It makes my heart so happy to know how kind and compassionate they are.
PS…sorry no pictures accompany this post, the allergic reaction was not a pretty thing.

Courage is contagious. When one brave man takes a stand, the spines of others are stiffened.
~Billy Graham

Today’s thankful post is easy. I am thankful for everyone who has served our country in the Armed Forces. I am proud to count so many people in my life as veterans – my father, my brother, both my brother-in-laws, members of my church family and so many friends are all veterans.

I am especially thankful for our freedom; freedom that would not exist without the courage and selflessness of the U.S. military. Thank you for your selflessness, thank you for your sacrifices, thank you for your commitment and thank you for your bravery.

Let’s All Be Brave {Book Review}

Let’s All Be Brave
Living Life with Everything You Have
by Annie F. Downs
About the book:

Annie Downs admits she’s not exactly the bravest girl in the world. She still cries sometimes when she leaves her parents’ home in Georgia, she’s never jumped out of a plane, and she only rides roller coasters to impress boys. But Annie knows that courage resides inside each and every one of us, and she’s on a mission to triumph over her own fears while encouraging readers to do the same.

As a single young woman, writer, speaker, and popular blogger, Annie shares this journey toward bravery with honesty and humor. Using wonderful stories from her own life, contemporary real-life examples, and fascinating historical and biblical references, Annie encourages readers to grab hold of the brave life that they desperately desire.

Let’s All Be Brave is more than just a book, it’s a battle cry. In it, Annie challenges us to live boldly, calls us to step into those places that require courage, and gives us the help to take the next step forward-even when it’s scary. This non-fiction, essay-driven book opens the door to many different views of courage-nudging, encouraging, and inspiring readers to be brave whenever given the chance.

For several reasons, this is a tough book to organize my feelings in an impressive way to present to you. I admit, this was a hard one for me to read. At first, I couldn’t stand her writing style. Actually, that feeling continued well into the book. I felt like she jumped from one subject to another and trying to concentrate so hard to follow her made me lose my interest. Her writing style felt like I was reading a bunch of little blog posts, separated into chapters. I have this bad habit of once a book becomes hard for me to read, I lose interest.

This book is written in a memoir style and was a story of one woman, Annie, who learned to be brave right where she was and now carries the torch-of-courage hoping to light an un-lit one. Her basic premise is to encourage us all to be brave in the little moments of our lives, which lead to the biggest moments… and being brave looks like following Christ, even when you aren’t comfortable when you see where you’re headed.

This book was provided to me free of charge by Book Look in return for my honest review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Thankful {9/30}

Today I am thankful for being able to hold this amazing mans hand during worship. It’s one of my fav things about Sunday mornings. Super love listening to God’s word with him beside me. It’s the little things like this that are big things to me.
