Whispers of Hope {Book Review & Giveaway}

Whispers of Hope: 10 Weeks of Devotional Prayer
by Beth Moore
About the book:

Scripture tells us to pray without ceasing, but how in the world do we do that? In fact, how should we effectively pray to begin with?

Best-selling author Beth Moore addresses these practical and pervasive matters in Whispers of Hope by walking readers through an easy to remember and apply method of prayer, coupled with seventy daily devotionals and followed by prompts to put this prayer method into practice.

Indeed, Whispers of Hope teaches the manifestation process of powerful Word-saturated prayer in response to a daily Bible reading. In turn, you will better understand how devotional reading and prayer are central to a stronger relationship with God

Who in the world has a problem praying? Certainly not anyone I’ve met…Our Pastor doesn’t, my mama never did, no one ever did on the Waltons and even my littles don’t…so why did I? A question I’d asked myself a million times inside my head.  For some reason I felt guilty for asking for things for myself during prayer. I would gladly pray for everyone else but when it came to me, I just couldn’t do it.
Have you ever had a praying problem like I did?  Do you wish you had a deeper prayer life? Are you new to prayer or wish you felt you were better at it?  I know y’all, me too!  Then this is the book for you! This is a great devotional to help you build an active prayer life. If prayer is something you struggle with (and this is an area I think we all can grow in), this is a great book to work through.

Whether you’re a long-time Beth Moore fan or new to her work, you will really enjoy this book. Beth Moore is such a gifted writer and has such an amazing way with words. She presents ideas and stories from the Bible in a way that’s easy to read and that applies to everyday life. In this book, she explains the 6 different types of prayer are praise, repentance, acknowledgment, intercession, supplication and equipping in detail.  She discusses how each of these types of prayer work together for a deeper, more honest prayer life. There’s space each day for journaling and notes.

Seeking Christmas {Book Review}

Seeking Christmas
Finding the True Meaning Through Family Traditions
By Renee Robinson

The book description:

Is the message of Christmas lost in the commercialization and hectic pace? Can we celebrate with intentional purpose? Using devotions and activities, Seeking Christmas gives your family an experience to pass down for generations to come.

This book is a devotional for the entire family, not just adults.  It might be a short book but it’s full of a super message.  It’s a great start for a Christ centered Christmas.

The book is based on a seven day period. Each day includes an entry that invites you to remember, read, reflect, rejoice and research. Each day is centered around a specific Biblical section concerning Christ’s birth. Each day’s “devotion” is short and simple.
I loved that there was a section for you to read aloud, a “reflect” section that is broken down by the ages of your littles and the research section I LOVED!
This book is such a wonderful way to begin a Christ based Christmas tradition.  It’s a great place to start.  If you’re trying to figure out how to teach your family to focus more on Christ during Christmas time and you don’t even know where to start, this book will help.
I received this book free from the publisher through the BookCrash.com book review program, which requires an honest, though not necessarily positive, review. The opinions i have expressed are my own.

Why Diets Don’t Work {Book Review}

Why Diets Don’t Work
Food Is Not The Problem
By Joyce Tilney
The book description:

This is not another diet plan, it is a battle plan! There is an epidemic in America today and it is obesity. How do we stop this? When we see the truth from God’s Word. Food is not the problem. Like Eve we have been given a free will to make choices for ourselves. After spending years in the struggle of weight issue, this book shares how Joyce overcame the shame and anger of the battle of the bulge. There is a power greater than your taste buds! You don’t have to be held captive in your body. Why Diet’s Don’t work goes to the core of the problem.

 Oh, how my heart needed this book.  You know those little “God moments” I’ve talked about before?  Yeah, this book brought a big one.

The very first sentence of the book…the devil wants you fat.  I know, right?  How powerful is that?  At least it was for me.  I’ve read that sentence time after time and wondered how I never saw that before.  As I worked my way through the first chapter of the book, I realized this was going to be a life-changer.  So I grabbed a pen and a highlighter and went back to the beginning.  Notes, underlining and highlighting fill this book.  So so so so many AMAZING points.  Once I started reading it, I could hardly put it down. I ended up bookmarking nearly every other page since so much of what I read agreed with my spirit.

This book would be a great read if you’ve had a similar struggle to mine.  Actually, this book is a great read for every woman.  So many points that I never would have thought of on my own.
